7 Bold New Makeup Colors That Flatter Everyone

Fall’s colorful crop of makeup may seem a little loud, but these shades are shockingly gorgeous on the skin. One swipe of these smoky shadows, sparkling blushes, or bright lipsticks and you’ll be ditching your typical taupes and browns.
Sparkly Pink Cheeks
Bright pink blush gives skin the most youthful-looking flush. But pay attention to the details: "Matte pink is chalky, and hard to wear," says makeup artist Linda Cantello. "Gold shimmer softens the look." Dust some onto the apples of you cheeks and blend outward so there are no hard lines.

1. NARS Angelika Blush, $26
2. Chanel Pink Explosion Blush, $42

Matte Fuchsia Lips
This loudmouth purple-pink shade looks modern (and becomes easier to wear) when dabbed on with a finger to create a stained effect.

1. Victoria's Secret VS Makeup Perfect Lipstick in Hot Spot, $12
2. L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nurturing & Protective Lipcolour in Wild Plum, $8.95

Tangerine Lipstick
This color isn't reserved for traffic cones and prison jumpsuits anymore. When it comes to lipstick, "a saturated orange is sexy, elegant, and strong," says makeup artist Dick Page. Plus, it warms up both fair and dark skin. Just keep the rest of your makeup tame when wearing it: Stick to a soft, peach blush and a swipe of black eyeliner.

1. Topshop Make Up Lips in Rio Rio, $16
2. Milani Lipstick in 42 Mandarina, $4.99

Pink and Chocolate
This color combination strikes the same cord as salted caramel: It seems untraditional, but the end result packs a real punch. Page says a chocolate brown eye shadow shade that's warmed up by wearing it with a hint of pale pink is a livelier way to wear the typical neutral. Sweep the brown color over the eyelids, then blend a sparkly pink shade around the edges of the brown and under the lashes. Pull the color combination together with a pink lip gloss that has a hint of brown.

1. Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Gleam Cream Eyeshadow in Rose Revolution, 6.49
2. Pur Minerals Pout Plumping Lip Gloss in Enchanted, $16

Burgundy Lipstick
We spotted this color all over the runways this season—including Donna Karan and Proenza Schouler—and for good reason: The rich berry shade has a certain ladylike sophistication that's perfect for fall. "If you already wear deep pinks or reds, this shade is the next logical step," says Page. Exfoliate lips with a cleansing wipe to get rid of any flakes before applying (dark lipsticks emphasize dry, chapped lips). Keep your mouth from appearing too bright by warming up your cheeks with a subtle blush from the same color family.

1. Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Grape, $8.99
2. Dior Addict Lipcolor Pinstripe Plum, $26

Lavender Shadow
If your daytime color palette is usually confined to beige, brown, and taupe, consider this new neutral: lavender with gray undertones. "It's a fresh variation on smoky eyes that's wearable for day," Page says. (Women with dark skin tones should stay away from lavenders that are too pale—it will look frosty on the skin.)

1. Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow Stay Matte in Night Plum, $14
2. Black Opal Mineral Brilliance Eye Shadow Mosaic in Zanzibar, $8.95

Forest Green Shadow
Splashing green on your eyelids can be tricky, but this deeper shade of forest green is "chic and sophisticated on everyone," says Page. Apply a golden moss-colored shadow over the lids, diffusing it as you get up toward the brow bones. Finish with a few coats of black mascara, and you're good to go.

1. Tarte EmphasEYES Waterproof Clay Shadow/Liner in Green, $22
2. Sonia Kashuk Eye Shadow Quad in Brown Eyed Girl, $12.99

CELEBRITY STYLE DOS AND DON'TS

Erin Wasson at the Chanel Soho Boutique

DON'T wear peek-a-boo dresses unless you are feeling really confident. Model and designer Erin Wasson rocked up to the Chanel Soho Boutique launch in a hot cream dress and oodles of punky accessories for a downtown finish. Love this look!

Maggie Grace at New York Fashion Week

DO wear Mad Men-style dresses like Maggie Grace. It's all about lady-like tailoring and retro prints right now

Madonna on the street in New York

DON'T let your outfit drown you, like Madonna. We could just about spot the superstar underneath her oversized scarf and baggy trousers.

Gwen Stefani at NY Fashion Week

Does Gwen Stefani ever have a fashion day off? Here the style icon worked a painterly kaftan with a no-nonsense black jacket. DO take a note of her strategically placed leather belt.

Ashley Greene on the street in LA

DON'T think you always need colour to make an impact with your outfit. Ashley Greene showed off her perfect pins in these black skin-tight jeans and smock top.

Victoria Beckham on the street in New York

Victoria Beckham would DO well to remember that a scarf is supposed to complement your outfit rather than hide it. We wanted to see her fabulous ruffled skirt but it was obscured by her oversized neckpiece.

Diana Vickers at BFC Fashion Launch

Rejoice at the return of high-waisted trousers - DON'T forget their leg-lengthening qualities. Diana Vickers showed us how to work this DO with an on-trend satchel bag and cross-over top.

Claire Danes at the Chanel Soho Boutique

DO dress up a pair of jeans with a smart blouse á la Claire Danes. This is a perfect combination for meeting the parents or smart weekend lunches.

Chanel Iman at the Chanel Soho Boutique

Model of the moment, Chanel Iman looked effortlessly cool in her sparkling mini dress and sandals combination. DO raise your hemlines for autumn - just add thick wool tights when the weather turns chilly.

Anouck Lepere at the Chanel Soho Boutique

It was head-to-toe Chanel for Anouck Lepere! Jealous? Us? Nah. DO make sure that your accessories relate well with your party dress and pick a theme for your look each day. Today - uptown chic. Tomorrow? Downtown denim. Try it, it's fun!

Leighton Meester at the Chanel Soho Boutique

We have a major style crush on Leighton Meester, but sadly this outfit failed to set our fashion enthusiasm alight. A slick of red lipstick would have lifted this look from good to great. The lesson? DON'T forget to add finishing touches to your outfits.

Liv Tyler at the Chanel Soho Boutique

DON'T think that black is boring. Liv Tyler looked simply elegant in a little black blouse, skirt and two-tone brogue ensemble at the Chanel Soho Boutique launch in NY. Red nail enamel and a luxe Chanel shoulder bag add a pinch of 50s elegance to this hot outfit.

Rachel Bilson at the Chanel Soho Boutique

LA clothes horse, Rachel Bilson looks awesome in her little cream Chanel dress and ankle boots combination. She's re-ignited our love of knitted dresses and long jumpers - DO invest in a high street version come winter.

Diane Kruger at the Chanel Soho Boutique

Does Diane Kruger ever have an off day? Granted that this voluminous frock is not exactly something you'd wear to the local disco, it looks fantastic on the star thanks to her understated accessories and effortless hair-do. DON'T be afraid to try something directional and different - risks can pay off!

Daisy Lowe at the Chanel Soho Boutique

Vintage lace and velvet are arguably the most luxe fabrics, so when worn together the risk is - will it work? DON'T be afraid to try luxe-on-luxe like Daisy Lowe, if you find a piece that fits your figure right, then you can get away with almost anything.

Blake Lively at the Chanel Soho Boutique

Looking like her usual happy and hot self, Blake Lively rocked up to the Chanel Soho Boutique launch in a shimmering evening dress and sky-high heels with her signature golden tan. DON'T think that you have to always play to the fashion trends to look good, the Gossip Girl star likes to take risks and pulls off anything thanks to her innate confidence. In short, if you're comfy and smiley, then you can pull off almost anything.

Alexa Chung at the Chanel Soho Boutique

Brit It-girl Alexa Chung seldom looks anything other than gorgeous at fashion parties, and the Chanel Soho Boutique launch was no exception. DO channel her trend-setting style and let a high octane dress take to the spotlight by keeping accessories neutral; a less-is-more approach to jewellery is best when sporting patterned pieces for a 2011-edge.

Lily Donaldson at the Chanel Soho Boutique

Flying the flag for the Brits, model Lily Donaldson looked awesome at the Chanel Soho Boutique opening in cheeky cut-off denim shorts and a smart white tuxedo jacket. DO mix classic tailoring with urban wardrobe staples for an edgy contrast.

SJP at the Chanel Soho Boutique Opening

Looking her usual fabulous self, SJP rocked the Chanel Soho Boutique launch in a two-tone dress and sequin jacket - what an outfit! DO mix textures - sequins and jersey are a great contrast - and layer on those diamanté bracelets for a luxe finish.

Holly Willoughby on the street in London

DO channel the English Heritage trend the Holly Willoughby way this season: you might not be into jodhpurs and tweed, but a so-now quilted Barbour jacket will add an on-trend edge to any outfit.

Amber Le Bon at the Venice Film Festival

Red lipstick can take an outfit from gorgeous to hot! Amber Le Bon added a touch of screen siren glamour to her so on-trend biege long dress at the Jaeger LeCoultre event at the Venice Film Festival. DO tip up your make-up bag and find that rouge ladies!

Rosamund Pike at the Venice Film Festival

DO stick to fashion basics. Actress Rosamund Pike looked simply stunning in a long black dress and minimal accessories at the Venice Film Festival - proof that less is indeed more.

Diana Vickers at Fashion’s Night Out

This cool jumper and edgy mini skirt combination is an absolute DO. Channel Diana Vickers directional style and go for futuristic tailoring and quirky knitwear.

Pixie Lott at Fashion’s Night Out

This is a tricky outfit to judge because it's half DO and half DON'T! We love the cute long socks, sexy mini dress and bang on-trend sherling jacket, but her 60s hair style doesn't work with this look. If your outfit is high impact, then leave your hair undone for Brit girl cool edge.

Lily Allen at the Lucy In Disguise launch

DO clash prints and trends for kooky look á la Lily Allen. The star has set up a vintage fashion label called Lucy In Disguise, so expect to see the star in a whole host of eccentric prints and off-the-wall maxis in future.

Claudia Schiffer on Fashion’s Night Out

DO play matchy matchy with prints. We loved Claudia Schiffer's stunning Christopher Kane Cruise collection mini skirt and matching top combination, proving that coordination can be ultra cool.

Thandie Newton at Fashion’s Night Out

We love it when stars sport something outrageous on the red (or, err black) carpet, but there's a limit on how high a hemline should go. DON'T show off your cleavage AND reveal a lot of leg all at once - even with a gorgeous figure like Thandie, it's too studied sexy.

Gemma Arterton at Fashion’s Night Out

DO raise your hemlines like Gemma Arterton who looked amazing on Vogue's Fashion's Night Out. We love the star's block black outfit that oozed minimalism - fuss-free is the way forward.

Alesha Dixon at the Strictly launch

The era of the strapless prom dress is far from over! DO make like Alesha Dixon and sport a blush cream one with of-the-moment biege heels and luxe jewellery for a modern princess effect.

Audrina Patridge at the Halo Reach launch

A black leather miniskirt is a sound investment because it'll be a versatile urban staple. DO make like Audrina Patridge and wear yours with a trusty denim jacket and ankle booties for a so-hot-right-now ensemble.

Kate Winslet at the Longines Dolcevita launch

DO wear sleek monochrome for a sophisticated look á la Kate Winslet. The star opted for an understated fitted dress with peep-toes and a luxe watch for a timelessly chic outfit.

Victoria Beckham on the street in New York

DO channel Victoria Beckham (who we spotted wearing this green GOAT dress in New York) in autumn's minimalist trend: clean lines and luxe fabrics are what it's all about.

Jessica Simpson launches her fashion collection

Big busted lady? DO embrace this season's trend for Mad Men-inspired 50s shapes, like empire lines and full swinging skirts to show off your curves the on-trend way. Jessica Simpson's denim dress might be cute but it doesn't do her figure any justice.

Jessica Hart on the street in New York

Tie-dye maxi dress + Converse sneakers + cool studded suede bag = a triple DO for model Jessica Hart as we snapped her walking through New York!

Lindsay Lohan on the street in LA

DO make sure there's at least one checked shirt in your closet - just make like Lindsay Lohan and throw over jeans, dresses, shorts for these tricky weather trans-seasonal days.

Charlize Theron at LAX airport

DO get your hands on some pointed heels this season like Charlize Theron - conservative kitten or seductive ultra-high, this hot shape's making a comeback for winter.

Rebecca Hall at the Venice Film Festival

DON'T forget that a slick of screen siren lipstick goes with practically any colour - even vibrant turquoise, as proven by Rebecca Hall who stunned on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival in this Vionnet gown.

Eva Longoria on the street in LA

Eva Longoria's leggings-boot-blazer combination is a DON'T for us. Why? We've seen this look about a thousand times before!

10 Beauty Secrets to Steal From Swimsuit Models

We looked to the ultimate beach babes for a few summery look-hot beauty tips. Whether you’re craving Gisele Bündchen’s waves or Alessandra Ambrosio’s ever-present glow, check out these tricks to looking supermodel sexy!

Soft skin and a flower in your hair = hot summer-beauty look.
Yes, she’s one of our June 2010 cover girls, but Brooklyn Decker also got a coveted spot in this year’sSports Illustrated swimsuit edition, where she’s featured in a teeny-weeny yellow polka-dot bikini. Want super-smooth skin like hers before you slip into your two-piece? Try a grainy scrub that exfoliates dry winter rough patches (likeBody Shop’s Sweet Lemon Body Scrub). Slip a flower behind your ear (real or fake), like Brooklyn does here, for a sexy island-inspired look—even if the only trip you’re taking this summer is a staycation!

Don’t forget the sunscreen.
No matter what your complexion, don’t forget the sunscreen. The American Academy of Dermatology advises to load up with an SPF broad-spectrum lotion or spray that’s 30 or above, and remember to reapply. (We like Aveeno’s Sun Continuous Protection with SPF 55). Want to get Cintia Dicker’s sun-kissed glow the safe way? Try a sheer orange cream blush (like Nars The Multiple in Turks & Caicos) for a pop of sun-kissed color on your cheeks.

Slim your calves (without hitting the gym).
For catwalkworthy legs like Selita Ebanks’, keep them smooth and stubble-free. Ditch your old razor blade after five uses and prevent in-shower slippage, say the Gillette shaving pros, by putting a washcloth on the edge of the tub and placing your foot on top. For gams that shine, says makeup artist Colleen Runne, apply a luminizing product (our pick:Victoria’s Secret Beach Sexy Shimmer Body Powder) to the front and back of your legs, not the sides, for a slimming effect
.

Get sexy beach hair, minus the sand.
Even more coveted than Gisele Bündchen’s quarterback husband is…her hair. Want that beachy look minus the sand and surf? Try wrapping hair around a large curling iron from root to ends, says hair pro Gavin. Then divide curled hair into three sections and pin into Princess Leia-like knots for 15 minutes, let down and tousle for texture. No time to style? Spritz in a wave-maker spray (like Sachajuan Ocean Mist) for instant supermodel sexiness
.

Opt for sheer makeup with subtle sparkles.
Follow Miranda Kerr’s pretty-in-pink lead and keep your makeup minimal when headed out into the sunshine. Makeup artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen, who made up our three gorgeous cover gals for the June 2010 issue, suggests using sheer products to avoid a heavy look. “Besides waterproof mascara, a gold lip gloss with SPF is very pretty on everyone’s skin tone,” she says. We likeClinique’s Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 in Goldspun. For extra glimmer, use a liquid bronzer (likeEstée Lauder Bronze Goddess Luminous Liquid Bronzer), but avoid chunky glitter. “Look for products that are finely milled—don’t go down the disco road,” she says
.

Give your hair a pre- and post-sea treat.
Model Jessica White may look like she has perfectly windblown hair, but for the rest of us, a day at the beach leaves our hair looking anything but! Besides the sand in your swimsuit, salt water takes a toll on your hair. To avoid a color fade-out, spritz in a hair product with UV filters to protect a new dye job (we like Phyto Plage Protective Beach Spray), and don’t forget to coat your part with sunscreen to prevent burning your scalp. To pamper post-sea tresses, Gavin suggests using a deep conditioner (like Infusium 23 Repairology Leave-In Treatment) after a day of fun in the sun
.

Look sexy all over.
Want a beach bum like Marisa Miller’s? To tighten up your tush, try a lotion with caffeine (we likeSt. Ives Cellulite Shield Advanced Body Moisturizer) and add a few squats to your daily routine. Don’t forget those hard-to-reach places, too! Make your back a zit-free zone come summer with a long-handled bath brush and a body wash with salicylic acid (like Neutrogena’s Body Clear Body Wash Pink Grapefruit).

Go for the bronze—not the orange.
Bar Refaeli looks sexy in orange, but trust us, turning this shade all over is definitely not sexy. For streak-free self-tanning, always exfoliate and start with your legs first, says Runne, then work your way up. Try a lotion that gradually gives you a glow so that you have more control over your hue. For an instant sexy sheen that washes off at the end of the night, tryVictoria’s Secret Beach Sexy Flawless Airbrush Instant Bronze Body Spray—the same product used on all the models at the VS fashion show.

Treat your sensitive body parts with care.
Don’t forget to pamper all your curves—including your underarms and bikini line. Rehab bumps and redness with an antiperspirant that doesn’t just battle BO but is gentle on those sensitive spots too (we likeSecret Soothing Effects Deodorant). No time for a wax? Get bare down there fast with an at-home system, like theVenus and Olay Bikini Kit, and you’re ready to hit the beach without picking up the phone to make an “emergency” appointment.

Prevent a makeup meltdown.
Get gorgeous like Brazilian beauty Alessandra Ambrosio without spending some serious QT under the South American sun. Skip the self-tanner on your face and opt for a bronzing powder instead (like Victoria’s Secret Pink Pretty Glow Pink Face & Body Bronzer). To avoid streaking, Runne suggests applying bronzer to matte skin by dusting on a translucent powder first. Fake bake and still look natural by using a bronzer that is only one shade up from your existing skin tone on your temples, cheekbones and down the bridge of your nose, and blend into your neckline with a damp sponge.
